Filipino Films Grace Busan and Tokyo International Film Fests, "Gensan Punch", "OTJ 2: The Missing 8" and "The Brokers"

2021 may still be hanging on the hook of the COVID-19 pandemic but it seems that Filipino films have unclasped from this as they are able to compete and be nominated for several international film festivals.

In the 26th Busan International Film Festival, two of Wildsound films are selected to showcase and compete. The newly announced HBO Asia Original Film, "Gensan Punch” directed by Brillante Mendoza is a selected nominee for the Kim Jiseok Award and will be screened under “A Window on Asian Cinema” division. While the film of Volpi Cup Best Actor Awardee John Arcilla, “OTJ 2: The Missing 8”, directed by Erik Matti will also be screened under the said division.

A little off east of Korea is the 34th Tokyo International Film Festival where two Wildsound sound designed and mixed films will also be featured. “Underground” director, Daniel Palacio will have his film, “The Brokers” compete in the Asian Future section. Mendoza’s “Gensan Punch” will be screened in the Gala Selection of the Festival.

Gensan Punch

Based on a true story, Gensan Punch follows the journey of Japanese man, Nao Tsuchiyama in pursuing his dream in the Philippines as a professional boxer despite having a prosthetic leg. Gensan Punch is a HBO Asia Original Film which will be streamed soon on HBO Go and HBO Channels.

OTJ 2: The Missing 8

A Philippine crime thriller revolves around the story of Sisoy Salas, a corrupt media man who seeks justice for the sudden disappearance of his colleagues and prisoner, Roman Rubio who is temporarily sent out of jail to take on assassinations. OTJ 2 is the film where John Arcilla (Sisoy Salas) is reigned as the first Asian Volpi Cup Best Actor Awardee in the Venice International Film Festival. Along with prequel OTJ 1, it became a 6-episode HBO series streaming now on HBO Go.

Underground director Daniel Palacio created the film The Brokers , which trails the story of real estate agent Mike as he clashes with informal settlers over a land development.
